Tekamar - Carpintería náutica y cubiertas de teca en Palma

Tekamar is a marine and shipyard carpentry workshop located within Astilleros de Mallorca, at the Contramuelle Mollet in the Port of Palma. It works with both classic wooden boats and modern yachts and superyachts: teak decks, interior and exterior woodwork, Corian surfaces, wooden masts, and structural restoration of classic boats.

Facilities

The workshop is equipped with specialized machinery, ranging from custom-built benches for laminating masts to vacuum presses for fine interior work. Being located within Astilleros de Mallorca allows us to work right next to the boat while the yacht is in dry dock or moored at the shipyard.

Projects

Notable among their projects is the complete reconstruction of the Hispania’s interior (2006–2008), in addition to numerous renovations of guest cabins and salons in recent seasons. Photos on their website show cabins with light wood finishes, mahogany salon furniture, teak decks with trim around winches and lockers, and the wooden steering wheel of a classic sailboat.

Basic Teak Care

• Clean with fresh water and a soft brush, always working across the grain.
• Avoid harsh products that eat away at the soft wood between the grain.
• Do not use a pressure washer at close range: it wears down the teak.
• Check the joints every season.

Classic Boats

Restoring a wooden boat requires knowledge of traditional techniques: replacing frames, replacing hull planks, and caulking. Tekamar combines these techniques with modern methods, allowing them to work on everything from a llaüt to a classic racing sailboat.

Tip: Plan your carpentry work for the winter

Interior and deck carpentry work takes time and is best done while the boat is out of the water. Scheduling this work in the fall ensures the boat will be ready for the season.

Corian on Board

Corian and similar materials like HI-MACS are used for kitchen countertops, bathrooms, and shower trays because they are non-porous, easy to repair, and withstand the boat’s humidity better than many other finishes.
