Boat rental prices in 2026: summary

The table above runs from the simplest boat to a skippered yacht. To read it:

  • Licence-free boats, up to 5 m and 15 hp, need no licence at all. They're the cheapest, but they're neither fast nor meant for long trips.
  • With a licence, you need a qualification that covers the boat's length and power: a Spanish licence or, in many cases, one from your own country.
  • With a skipper, you need no licence: a professional drives and you enjoy the day. It costs the most, but it's also the easiest.

Some real examples:

  • In Mallorca, a licence-free boat costs on average about €321 a day. Small ones for up to 5 people go for €170 to €220, and large ones for more than 8 for €300 to €500.
  • In Ibiza, licence-free boats run from €100 to €500 a day. On the Costa Brava you'll find them from €100.
  • In Santa Ponsa, boats that need a licence rent from €290 per group for 4 to 8 hours.
  • In Ciutadella (Menorca), a 6-hour trip with a captain for up to 5 people starts at €300. Expect to add about €50 for cleaning, €50 in port fees and €70 to €150 of fuel.
  • In Puerto Portals, skippered boats start at €650 for 6 hours, and most mid-range motorboats and yachts cost €1,200 to €3,000 a day with the skipper included.

What the rental price includes

Fuel

This is the biggest extra. On licence-free boats it's usually included or charged as a flat fee. Elsewhere you normally pay for what you use: €50 to €200 a day on a motorboat and much more on fast, large boats. Sailing yachts use very little if you actually sail.

Skipper

If you have no licence or don't know the area, rent the boat with a skipper. Hired separately, a skipper costs about €165 a day, plus meals if they spend the day aboard. On skippered day trips the skipper is usually included.

Berths

If you bring the boat back to its home port every evening, you pay nothing. If you spend nights in other harbours on a longer rental, each night costs a berth: €40 to €100 a night in high season for a mid-size boat.

Cleaning, fees and deposit

Many companies charge a final cleaning fee of around €50, and some a port fee. The deposit is paid at the start and returned if the boat comes back undamaged.

What changes the price

Season

July and August are the most expensive months, especially in the Balearics. In May, June, September and October prices drop a lot, and by the week a boat can cost half as much as in August.

Size and age of the boat

A bigger boat costs more to rent, to fuel and to berth. A boat over 10 years old can be much cheaper than a new one of the same length.

Duration

A weekly rental works out much cheaper per day than single days. Many companies also offer half-day rates.

Real example: a day on a boat in Mallorca for six people

Say you're six friends and want to spend a day along the Mallorca coast in June:

OptionTypical costPer person
Licence-free boat, fuel included€220 – 300€37 – 50
Boat that needs a licence, plus fuel€350 – 500€58 – 83
Skippered trip, 6–8 hours€400 – 650€67 – 108

The licence-free boat is cheapest, but you won't get far or go fast. With a skipper you pay a little more, but someone who knows the coast takes you to the best coves and nobody has to keep an eye on the boat.

How to save without cutting corners

  • Avoid July and August. In June and September the water is still warm and prices are much lower.
  • Ask whether fuel is included and how much the route you have in mind usually burns.
  • Compare with and without a skipper. For a group the difference per person is sometimes small, and the skipper knows the coves and anchorages.
  • Check the boat when you pick it up and photograph any existing scratches, so they don't come out of your deposit.
  • Watch the forecast. Good companies move the date free of charge in bad weather.

How to choose a rental company

Ask before you book:

  • What does the price include: fuel, cleaning, fees, insurance?
  • How much is the deposit and how is it returned?
  • What happens if the weather is bad on the day?
  • Is the boat insured and serviced?
  • Which areas can I sail in and anchor in?

On Nautify you can find boat rental in Mallorca, Ibiza, Menorca, Valencia and other areas, as well as skippered boats, sailing charters and catamarans. If you live in Spain and want to skipper your own boat, see how much the Spanish PER licence costs.

Conclusion

A day on a boat costs from €100 on a licence-free boat to over €1,000 on a skippered yacht, and a week on a sailing yacht or catamaran €2,900 to €8,800 depending on the boat and season. Always add fuel, berths if you stay away overnight, and cleaning, and rent in June or September if you can: it's the easiest way to pay a lot less.

Frequently asked questions

Can I rent a boat in Spain without a licence?

Yes. So-called licence-free boats, up to 5 m long and 15 hp, can be rented from age 18 with no licence at all: the rental company shows you how to handle the boat and where you can go. For anything bigger, or if you'd rather not drive yourself, rent it with a skipper.

Is my licence from home valid for renting a boat in Spain?

Often, yes. Many Spanish rental companies accept an ICC or a national licence from another EU country for boats within the limits that licence gives you at home. The rules depend on the boat's flag and size, so send the company a copy of your licence before you book and ask them to confirm.

Is fuel included in the price?

It depends on the boat. On licence-free boats it is usually included or charged as a flat fee. On larger motorboats, sailing yachts and catamarans it almost never is: you leave with a full tank and pay for what you use. A day on a motorboat can burn €50 to €200 of fuel, and much more on very powerful boats.

Do I have to leave a deposit?

Almost always. The deposit covers any damage to the boat and is returned at the end if everything is fine. The amount varies a lot by boat; on skippered rentals it is usually lower, because a professional is in charge. Some companies offer insurance that reduces or waives the deposit for an extra fee.

When is it cheapest to rent a boat?

In May, June, September and October prices are much lower than in July and August, and the Mediterranean weather is usually good. By the week, a sailing yacht or catamaran can cost half as much or less in low season than in August. Booking early also helps, especially in the Balearic Islands.

What is APA on a crewed yacht charter?

The Advance Provisioning Allowance is an advance for on-board expenses, standard on larger crewed yacht charters. It is paid on top of the charter fee, usually around 25 to 35% of it, and covers fuel, food, drinks and berths. At the end, the captain gives you the accounts and refunds whatever wasn't spent.
