Antifouling in Canary Islands Waters
The year-round warm waters of the Canary Islands promote the growth of algae and barnacles on the underwater hull. As a general guideline, it’s advisable to haul out the boat to clean the hull and renew the antifouling every 12 to 24 months, and to inspect the anodes, propellers, and sea inlets during each haul-out. A clean hull sails faster and uses less fuel.
Osmosis: Why It Should Be Done in a Shipyard
Osmosis treatment requires stripping the underwater hull and allowing the laminate to dry for weeks before applying the epoxy barrier. Doing this in a covered facility, such as the one at Varaderos Anaga, protects the hull from moisture and rain and allows for better control over the drying process.
Small Boats and Dry Storage
In addition to the travel lift for large boats, Varaderos Anaga has a 4.5-metric-ton forklift, dry storage racks, and spaces for trailers. For motorboats and inflatable boats, this is a practical way to store the boat out of the water, protected from fouling, and launch it only when you’re ready to sail.
