The photos on their website show actual work at the Benalmádena dry dock: stripped underwater hull, propellers and sterns prepared for antifouling, and cracks in the hull prior to repair.
Osmosis: How It’s Treated
Osmosis appears as blisters on the underwater hull when water penetrates the gelcoat and reacts with the laminate. Treatment involves stripping the damaged gelcoat, allowing the hull to dry while controlling humidity, repairing the affected areas, and applying an epoxy barrier before the antifouling. The drying process is the longest phase, so it’s usually scheduled during the off-season.
Antifouling on Metals
Shafts, propellers, sterns, and trim tabs require a different treatment than the hull: specific metal preparation and a compatible antifouling coating to prevent galvanic corrosion. Proper treatment of these metal parts prevents the boat from losing speed due to propeller fouling.
Fixed-Price Quote
One of the common problems with boat repairs is bills that keep rising as the work progresses. DMT Nautic first conducts an assessment and then provides a fixed-price quote, so the boat owner knows exactly what they’ll pay before work begins.
Before Selling Your Boat
Inspecting the hull before putting the boat up for sale allows you to repair dents, polish the gelcoat, and renew the antifouling, which improves the buyer’s impression and prevents the survey from uncovering defects that would lower the price.
Preventive Hull Maintenance
Inspecting the hull once a year—even if there are no visible dents—allows for the early detection of cracks in the gelcoat, osmosis blisters, worn anodes, or wear on the antifouling. It is much cheaper to repair these issues early than to wait until water penetrates the laminate. With regular maintenance, the boat retains its value and performs better.
Teak Decks
Teak decking suffers from the southern sun: it turns gray, loses its oil, and the joints come apart. DMT Nautic restores and maintains teak decks to restore their color and watertightness.
