What owners book in Mallorca, and when

Many owners with a boat in Mallorca do not live on the island, so the most requested service is the pre-arrival clean: deck, teak, windows, heads, galley and cabins, with the boat aired and ready to go. When you leave, a departure clean leaves the boat desalted, dry and locked up.

In between, a weekly or fortnightly cleaning contract in season keeps deck and teak in check against sun and salt. Polishing and waxing the gelcoat is best done in spring, before the strong sun starts, and again at the end of the season.

For the hull afloat, a diver can clean the underwater hull and propeller at the berth between haul-outs. Ask which products they use: Balearic marinas require products that are safe for the marine environment, and dirty water cannot be discharged into the harbour.

Types of boat cleaning

A fresh-water wash with neutral soap is the most common job and protects gelcoat, stainless steel and canvas from salt. Beyond that there is interior and upholstery cleaning, hull polishing and waxing, teak treatment, bilge cleaning and full detailing before a sale or the start of the season.

Under water, divers clean the hull, propeller and water intakes without a haul-out. It keeps speed up and fuel consumption down between haul-outs.

One-off cleaning or a regular service

If you use the boat often or charter it, a weekly or fortnightly service works out cheaper than one-off cleans and stops dirt from building up. Many companies in Mallorca offer packages or monthly fees.

Before hiring, ask which products they use (harsh ones damage gelcoat and teak), whether they use eco-friendly products in the marina and whether they are insured in case of damage.

Boat cleaning in Mallorca: frequently asked questions

Can my boat be cleaned before I arrive in Mallorca?

Yes, that is the most common request. Agree the date with the company, leave access instructions for the marina and the boat, and ask for photos when they finish.

Are there cleaning contracts for the whole season?

Many companies offer weekly or fortnightly cleans from May to October, priced per visit by boat length. It usually costs less than booking one-off cleans.

How much does boat cleaning cost in Mallorca?

For 6 to 15 metre boats, an exterior wash starts at around €40, while full detailing with polishing, waxing and interiors can exceed €1,500. The price depends on length, condition and how often you book.

How often should a boat be cleaned?

Ideally rinse it with fresh water after every trip and do a full clean once a month in season. Hull polishing and waxing is done once or twice a year.

Can the hull be cleaned without lifting the boat out?

Yes. Professional divers clean the hull, propeller and anodes afloat. It doesn't replace antifouling, but it extends its life and improves performance between haul-outs.

Which products are safe for teak?

Dedicated low-pH teak cleaners and a soft brush used across the grain. Avoid high-pressure washers and bleach, which wear the wood and open the seams.
