Off-Season Discounts
The shipyard offers reduced rates during the off-season, from October through March, and free, no-obligation estimates for any repairs or modifications. This is the best time to haul out: there’s greater availability, work is done at a leisurely pace, and the boat will be in top shape by spring.
Osmosis: How to Treat It
Osmosis appears as blisters on the underwater hull when water penetrates the gelcoat and reacts with the laminate. The standard treatment consists of:
- Stripping the gelcoat from the underwater hull.
- Drying the laminate in a workshop or cabin, monitoring moisture levels with a moisture meter.
- Repairing the damaged areas.
- Apply an epoxy barrier in several coats.
- Finish with antifouling.
Drying is the most time-consuming part, so it’s best to do this in the winter, taking advantage of the off-season.
Before Hauling Out: General Tips
- Book in advance, especially in the spring.
- Bundle tasks: Take advantage of the dry docking to address anodes, the propeller, seawater intakes, and antifouling.
- Request a breakdown of costs and ask about the number of days the boat will be in dry dock.
- Inspect the boat with the technician when taking it out of the water: this is when issues with the underwater hull become apparent.
Why haul out in El Masnou
El Port del Masnou is about twenty minutes from Barcelona and is one of the ports with the most berths in the Maresme region. Beaching there allows many local boat owners to perform maintenance without having to transport the boat far away, and having the workshop right in the port makes it easy to monitor the work closely and coordinate mechanical, painting, and electrical work during a single dry-docking session.
Radio Beacons and Communications
As an authorized service provider for brands such as ACR Artex, Ocean Signal, and Sailor, the dry dock can service radio beacons and communication equipment—a requirement in many sailing areas. Taking advantage of the dry docking to service this equipment avoids extra trips before the season begins.
