Design, installation, rigging, and inspection of rigging approved by Lloyd's Register and RINA at Can Valero
Marine Results is an independent company specializing in rigging for large sailing yachts and superyachts, with service centers in Palma de Mallorca (Can Valero industrial park) and Hamble (United Kingdom), and a satellite facility in Vilanova when needed. The company works on some of the world’s largest and tallest-masted sailboats, including ocean-racing yachts and America’s Cup campaigns, as well as luxury cruisers and supermaxis. Its riggers are also racing crew members, so they know the rigging from both sides: the workshop and the deck.
| Accreditation | Scope |
|---|---|
| Lloyd’s Register | Approved service provider for mast and rigging surveys |
| RINA | Approved service provider |
Its testing centers in Palma and Hamble use equipment developed for the aerospace industry.
Photos on its website show work on large sailboats: riggers working on the mast, nighttime mast-raising operations using a crane in the harbor, and three-masted sailboats moored in Palma.
On a superyacht, the rigging withstands enormous loads, and a failure can be catastrophic. Insurers and classification societies require periodic inspections, and a report signed by a provider approved by Lloyd’s Register or RINA is valid for them. Non-destructive testing allows for the detection of cracks in end fittings, spreaders, or hardware before they become visible.
Dismasting a large sailboat requires planning for the crane, obtaining port permits, dismantling the rigging, and transporting the mast to the workshop. This is often done at night, when the harbor is quieter. While on land, the mast, boom, standing rigging, and hydraulic systems are inspected, and then the mast is re-rigged and the rigging is trimmed.
Experience gained in racing translates to cruising: properly adjusting the rigging improves performance, reduces sail wear, and increases safety. A well-trimmed rig is faster and also more comfortable.
In addition to inspections, Marine Results can perform destructive testing to determine the actual breaking load of lines, fittings, or components. This information is invaluable when replacing rigging with new materials, such as synthetic rigging, or when there are concerns about a component following an incident.
Palma is one of the world’s leading ports for sailing superyacht refits, with shipyards, sailmakers, and specialists of all kinds within a few kilometers. Having a service and testing center here allows us to serve large sailing yachts during their winter lay-up in Mallorca, when the most significant rigging work is typically carried out.
