Antifouling in Asturias

Antifouling is the underwater hull paint that stops weed, barnacles and molluscs from attaching. A fouled hull can noticeably raise fuel consumption, cost you speed and clog the engine's water intakes.

There are two main families: self-polishing (ablative) antifouling, which wears away and renews itself with use, and hard antifouling, more resistant to abrasion and suited to fast boats or boats that are lifted often. The water in Asturias and how you use the boat decide which suits you.

It starts with the haul-out and pressure wash, then sanding the old layer, repairing dings, priming if needed and at least two coats of paint, with an extra coat at the waterline, keel and rudder.

Always ask whether the price includes the haul-out and the paint, which brand and type will be used and whether it is compatible with the previous coating.
