Servicio oficial Volvo Penta, velería, jarcia Selden y Furlex, tienda náutica, escuela y chárter en Sada
A sail loft designs and builds new sails from your boat's measurements and how you use it: cruising, racing or offshore. Choosing the right cloth (Dacron, laminates or membranes) and cut makes the difference in performance and lifespan.
Lofts also repair tears, replace battens, patches and UV strips, and make lazy bags, boom covers and furler socks. Many offer collection, washing, inspection and winter storage of your sails.
A stretched sail makes the boat heel more and point worse. If the draft has moved aft, the leech flutters or the cloth is sun-damaged and stiff, it is probably time for a new one. Stitching and the genoa's UV strip are the first things to wear.
In A Coruña, the best time to check your sails is at the end of the season: repairs can be done without rush and new sails arrive before spring.
A cruising Dacron sail can last many years with good care. Sun is its worst enemy, so UV strips and covers are essential.
It depends on sail area, cloth and cut. Ask a sailmaker to measure the boat and explain the material options.
Most tears and open seams can be fixed if repaired early. If the cloth is badly degraded, the repair may not be worth it.
Rinsed of salt, fully dry and folded or rolled without hard creases, in a dry place. Many sail lofts offer this service.
