Teak and Esthec decks, interior refits, and restoration of classic yachts in the Port of Palma
Baleos Yacht Carpentry is a yacht carpentry company founded in 2007 by Toni Covas, a shipwright with more than 23 years of experience. The company is located at the Muelle Viejo in Palma (Global Building, outer breakwater), right in the heart of the port and close to the city’s main dry docks, and combines traditional techniques for classic boats with modern procedures for superyachts.
Baleos has worked on more than 30 boats, including some of the best-known classics and superyachts in the Mediterranean:
| Boat | Type |
|---|---|
| S/Y Moonbeam IV | Classic sailing yacht |
| S/Y Creole | Classic sailing yacht |
| S/Y Sylvia (1925) | Classic sailing yacht |
| S/Y Aquarius (47 m and 56 m) | Sailing superyachts |
| M/Y Aziza | Motor yacht |
| Natural teak | Esthec | |
|---|---|---|
| Appearance | Authentic wood, aesthetic benchmark | Mimics wood with color-fast pigments |
| Maintenance | Periodic cleaning, caulking, and sanding | Very low |
| Behavior in the Sun | Grays over time | Retains its color |
| Sustainability | Depends on the wood’s origin | Composite material; no trees cut down |
The choice depends on the type of boat, its use, and your budget: on a classic boat, teak is almost always retained; on a modern charter yacht, a low-maintenance material may be the better option.
Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
In an interior refit, carpentry usually sets the pace of the project: furniture must be carefully disassembled, repaired, or replaced; pieces must be adapted to new equipment; and everything must be reassembled with finishes that can withstand the boat’s humidity and movement. Working from a facility right in the port, as Baleos does, makes it easier to coordinate with other trades and the crew while the boat remains moored. Before starting, it’s best to agree on which pieces will be kept, the type of wood and finish, and a realistic timeline so the boat will be ready before the season begins.
