Dive centres run try-dives for first-timers, internationally recognised courses (PADI, SSI, CMAS and others), guided dives for certified divers and equipment rental.
Many have their own boat to reach wrecks, caves, marine reserves and walls you can't get to from the shore.
Check that instructors are certified, the condition of the equipment, group sizes and reviews from other divers. A good centre adapts dives to your level and carries oxygen and an emergency plan on board.
In Mallorca you can compare dive centres on Nautify and message them directly about dates, courses and dive sites.
A try-dive usually costs from a few dozen euros to a little over a hundred, depending on duration, shore or boat and the gear included.
The first level (Open Water or equivalent) usually takes 3 or 4 days, with theory, pool or confined-water sessions and open-water dives.
Normally you fill in a medical questionnaire; if you answer yes to any question, you will need a fitness-to-dive certificate from a doctor.
The main agencies allow try-dives and junior courses from 8 to 10 years old, with depth limits.
Appear on this page and on the Nautify map. It is free and commission-free: boat owners contact you directly.
