Boat painters in Cartagena and the Mar Menor: antifouling, hull and deck painting, varnishing, gelcoat work and protective coatings.
Cartagena, Campo de Cartagena y Mar Menor
The most frequent job is antifouling the underwater hull, renewed every one or two seasons. Next come topside and deck painting with polyurethane, varnishing brightwork, gelcoat repairs and epoxy barrier coats against osmosis.
A good finish depends above all on preparation: sanding, cleaning, degreasing and compatible primers. That is where most of the hours go, and it is what separates paint that lasts years from paint that peels in months.
Ask which paint system they will apply (brand, number of coats and compatibility with the existing paint), how long the boat must stay on the hard and whether the quote includes preparation.
In Cartagena and the Mar Menor spring is peak season for painters and boatyards; booking ahead helps you get better dates and prices.
For boats up to 20 metres, a full antifouling job ranges roughly from €450 to €4,500, depending on length, hull condition and paint type. The haul-out is usually quoted separately.
Antifouling is renewed every 12 to 24 months. Well-applied polyurethane topside paint can last 5 to 10 years.
If the gelcoat is dull but sound, polishing and waxing is usually enough. With porosity, cracking or heavy fading, polyurethane paint is the lasting solution.
A simple antifouling takes two or three days. A full hull repaint with preparation can take from one to several weeks depending on size and weather.
